And when they understood that the parents were unable to help the children in their academics, she opened her house for them and conducted free tuitions. When she noted that some of the children were having interest towards vocational training and not mainstream education, she networked with the Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) near her locality and raised funds from her friends and admitted these children in ITI centers. She also identified that the women were not empowered, as they were uneducated and unemployed, so she gave them free tailoring classes which helped them to generate reasonable income.

What Mrs. Isabella Baskaran started to do for these children, youth and women informally became too enormous for her to handle. In less than three years’ time she was catering to the needs of close to 200 children, youth and women. And since her friends advised her to do her charitable work in a structured way, she resigned from her work as a Teacher, and registered Elysiom in 1995 as a Charitable Trust and started serving the community on a full-time basis.
